What Cedar Log Profile Do You Prefer?
Log homes can come in varying shapes and sizes, and the logs used to build those homes can vary just the same. At Cedar Direct Log Homes, we offer only nature’s best, Northern White Cedar, for our solid wall system.
Northern White Cedar is a slow-growing tree that is harvested in the Northeastern United States and Canada. Ironically, this low moisture content wood grows in the swamps and can only be harvested during the winter freeze. Visit our cedar page for more information about all of the molecular and aesthetics properties that makes NWC superior to all other woods.
Due to the slow-growing nature of this phenomenal species of wood, it is a smaller tree. The most common size log from a NWC tree is 6 inches by 6 inches. A “D” style log is the most popular cut, which is rounded on the exterior and flat on the interior of the log. Although NWC may have limits with the size of logs that can be harvested for your log home, rest assured that heartwood is in every log we produce. To learn about the advantages of heartwood, please visit our Cedar versus Pine page for more information. You will be glad you did.
You can also choose the corner style you prefer for your new custom cedar log home. Cedar Direct offers butt & pass corners as well as corner post corners as shown below. There is no additional charge for either corner style.
