At CDLH, we turn your dreams into a reality. We believe your log home should reflect your dream, not a carbon copy of someone else’s. That’s why we offer state-of-the-art, computerized, custom log home drafting and blueprinting for both the preliminary and final construction blueprints. The preliminary and final blueprints are free with your custom log home package, and there is NO additional charge for custom design.

The Custom Log Home Design Process

After the initial design meeting with a member of our design team to finalize decisions regarding your preliminary blueprints, you can expect to receive your prelims in 10 to 14 days. For your convenience, the prelims are presented in PDF format so they are easily emailed to you, your builder, suppliers, and others that may need them to prepare a quote for you.

Preliminary blueprints are only designed once. If you would like another design meeting to receive a second copy of your prelims, an additional charge will apply based on the complexity of your cedar log home. Please expect an additional two weeks to receive the second set of prelims. Please note most customers do not require a second set of preliminary blueprints. They make changes to the prelims and move to their final construction prints.

Once you have signed off on the preliminary blueprints with any and all changes you would like for your custom cedar log home, our design experts will draw the final construction blueprints. Final window and door choices must be completed before final construction blueprints can be drawn. The preliminary blueprints will include the following drawings:

1. First-floor plan with dimensions and details.
2. Second-floor plan with dimensions and details (*).
3. All four exterior elevation drawings.
4. Rough opening schedule for windows and doors showing the size of all windows and doors as drawn.
5. Basement/garage dimensions and details (*).

Final construction blueprints are approximately 2′ X 3′ in size, but may vary slightly due to the square footage of the cedar log house. Final construction blueprints contain the following drawings:

1. Rough opening schedule for all windows and doors.
2. First-floor plan.
3. Second-floor plan (*).
4. Basement plan (*).
5. Front elevation.
6. Right elevation.
7. Left elevation.
8. Rear elevation.
9. Longitudinal section.
10. Foundation plan (*).
11. First-floor joist plan.
12. Second-floor joist plan (*).
13. Roof rafter plan.
14. General construction details.
15. Construction details for stairs and decks (*).

* As required based on the design of the custom log home.

Once you receive the eight sets of final construction blueprints, you are one step closer to building your dream cedar log home. Please note that any and all changes made to the final construction blueprints will require additional funds, as stated in the Custom Log Home Package Agreement.
